The best robot vacuums under $200 for those with a tight budget

With technology breakthroughs happening at the speed of light, quality robot vacuums can be purchased far more reasonable than in the past. The concept of scheduling a robot vacuum to clean floors while homeowners are away was very attractive, but the price tag was often a consumer barrier. While robot vacuums are excellent for maintenance, they cannot be relied upon to deep clean as an upright vacuum would. But, for any working household with busy schedules, a robot vacuum may provide the stop-gap necessary to keep high traffic areas free of debris.

While the iRobot brand was the initial pioneer of robot vacuum technology, several brands have disrupted the market providing quality and value. This article highlights three such options and discusses basic specifications as well as tested opinions.

Editor’s Choice: ILIFE A4 Robotic Vacuum Cleaner Review

ilife-a4-robotic-vacuum-cleaner-reviewOne of our favourite new models in the category of budget robotic vacuum cleaner is the ILife A4. This is a newer model from the A3, with impressive upgrades and features.

Like the A3, all the modes are present and accounted for. The most useful is the Edge mode where you get the robot to pick up dirt along the sides of the wall. Other modes includes the usual spiral and remote control modes.

When compared against the A3, the A4 spots major upgrades in all departments. It is faster, less noisy and has a longer battery life. It also spots a much bigger dustbin to hold more dirt.

The downside is that it is still not as intelligent as the other brands. It keeps bumping into things. Sometimes the impact can be quite large so you will want to clear the floor first before starting the vacuum cleaner.

Infinuvo CleanMate QQ2 Basic $149.00

best robot vacuums under $200 1

A great value for any household interested in maintaining tile and low-pile carpeting. With a brush attachment that agitates debris and then uses powerful suction to vacuum it away, the Infinuvo CleanMate QQ2 Basic is ideal for spot cleaning. The model unfortunately lacks HEPA filtration but does offer a slot for air freshening as it vacuums. A unique feature of the Infinuvo CleanMate QQ2 Basic is its ultraviolet light designed to kill bacteria and deodorize any room. The system does lack virtual wall technology and will require physical barriers to deter it from entering off-limit rooms. However, the model does come equipped with advanced drop-off detection to prevent it from falling down staircases.

  • Battery Life: NIMH battery capacity, 1 hour of operation
  • Noise level: 80 decibels
  • Navigation: Bumper sensors and staircase detection.
  • Pet Hair Maintenance: Excellent
  • Optimal Flooring Type: Tile, hard wood, laminate, and low-pile carpet.

The Infinuvo CleanMate QQ2 Basic comes with a one-year warranty and the manufacturer provides live customer service and an extensive FAQ page on its website. While not the highest rated robot vacuum, this little machine packs a nice cleaning punch for under $150!

Infinuvo Hovo 510 – $195.00

best robot vacuums under $200 2

The budget-friendly Infinuvo Hovo 510 is a perfect robot vacuum for high traffic households with pets. Best designed for low-pile carpet, hardwood, and tile, the Infinuvo Hovo 510 lacks automatic height adjustment and HEPA filtration. That being said, with navigation technology found in high-end models, there is little that the Infinuvo Hovo 510 leaves to be desired. It performs surprisingly well with stubborn stains and spot cleaning. Here are some specification highlights:

  • Battery Life: NiMh dry battery with 2200mAh capacity and alkaline batteries. 2 hour overall run time. Model will run until battery is low and then return to its charging base on its own.
  • Noise level: 80 decibels
  • Navigation: Virtual wall technology included and model is equipped with sensors to stop at drop-offs.
  • Pet Hair Maintenance: Excellent
  • Optimal Flooring Type: Tile, hard wood, laminate, and low-pile carpet

The Infinuvo Hovo 510 comes with a one-year warranty and live customer support. The manufacturer has created video tutorials openly available online and customers can also access live chat support 24/7. A large drawback to this model is the lack of height adjustability, however for the living spaces without plush carpet, this machine is a great cleaning addition!

Tech-Gadget Intelligen Robot – $198.00

best robot vacuums under $200 3

A compact robot vacuum option, the Tech-Gadget Intelligen can reach places most commercial vacuums cannot. With bumper sensors, the model will not scrape or nick any furniture. A drawback to this robot vacuum model is its lack of allergen defense. Allergy sufferers would want to choose a model equipped with a HEPA filtration system. There are several cleaning patterns to choose from with the Tech-Gadget Intelligen which aid in cleaning both spots and high-traffic stains.

  • Battery Life: 14.4V Ni-MH rechargeable battery. 1 hour of run time but model will take itself back to the charging base before battery dies.
  • Noise level: 80 decibels
  • Navigation: Virtual wall technology included along with cliff sensors to prevent falls down staircases. Built-in bumpers.
  • Pet Hair Maintenance: Average
  • Optimal Flooring Type: Tile, hard wood, laminate, and low-pile carpet.

There is a one-year warranty standard with this model and the manufacturer offer live customer service over the phone and email. For the higher price, the Tech-Gadget Intelligen does not deliver any true advantage over the lower priced Infinuvo models.

Discovering which type of robot vacuum is right for your household can come down to many factors. Do you have pets? Are you or any of your family members allergic to dust and mold? Do you have plush carpeting that requires vacuums to adjust their height? All answers should go into your robot vacuum decision. Consumers may discover that highly powered robot intelligence is unnecessary to their specific needs and increases price. Many households simply require basic robot cleaning intelligence and can freely choose a model under $200. The three models chosen above embody what we feel are qualities the average household would require at pricing they can afford.
